Dear Terri,
Thanks for writing to Bellies, Birth, & Babies!
In most cases, any discrepancy between your due date and the gestational size of your baby is due to someone mis-measuring you or guessing your conception date incorrectly. In other words ~ the chances that there is really anything wrong with your baby are quite slim ~ you're probably either: #1 - not as far along as you thought, and your due date should be adjusted accordingly, or #2 - you and the baby should be measured again to confirm the baby's gestational age of 30 weeks (or something near that).
All that being said, if your doctor actually said the words,"the baby isn't growing right," and either you or your he suspect that this is something more than just a measuring error or a calendar problem, there are some tests that should be run. Please call him at your earliest possible opportunity, and ask him to explain exactly what he thinks is going on so that you can clear up the mystery and stop second guessing yourself.
Good luck,
Dr. Julie Seymour, D.C.
