Yes, it is fine to walk soon after giving birth; the nurses will assist you if you are unsteady. If you have a cesarean birth, the nurses will assist you in walking a few hours after giving birth.
Breastfeeding does, indeed, assist you in losing weight (faster than if you did not breastfeed). Some things to remember....it took 9 months to put on the weight and it may take up to nine months to lose the weight. A pregnant woman puts on about 7 pounds in the last trimester for the purpose of supporting breastfeeding. When you breastfeed, you need extra calories; if you eat a well-balanced, healthy diet (free of junk foods and high calorie foods), you should lose weight in a steady, reasonable fashion.
