Q.Hi I have a 10 week old baby and from the first week she was born we gave her a bottle (of expressed milk) each day so she could get used to it when I returned to work. However just this last week she has refused to take the bottle and cries every time we try. I'm very worried as I will be returning to work in 3 weeks. Have you heard of this happening before? I asked my pediatrician and he said no. What should we do to get her to take the bottle again? Thanks.

Dear Kate, Some suggestions to reintroduce the bottle to your baby would be the following: 1) warm the milk and the bottle nipple; 2) have someone other than you offer the bottle; 3) be absent from the room when the baby is being offered the bottle; 4) offer the bottle when the baby is not too hungry...maybe when just waking and a bit sleepy; 5) have the person offering the bottle walk outside so the baby is distracted with the garden sites; 6) let the baby play with the bottle in a warm bath tub (no pressure); 7) put the bottle under YOUR arm and position the baby as if she is nursing; 8) experiment with different bottles and nipples; 9) use the BREAST BOTTLE (Adiri) (If unable to find it easily, please call Becoimng Mothers at 303-546-MAMA *6262* and we'll send you one). Reintroducing a bottle can be quite frustrating and emotionally trying. Perhaps the best time is to try these suggestions when you can dedicate the weekend to the task. Best of luck!
